editing hi 8

What kind of editing formats do most ppl prefer on hi 8 video. My dad suggested a computer program, but doesn't that take forever to upload???

Also I've heard of like cam something which you link either to the camera, or the video player. Are these a good option. Would it involve linking up 2 video players?

Can you tell I'm a complete amateur???

If you have a newer computer and can afford to buy a video capture card I would recommend editing on a computer. You will have a much more enjoyable time and you will be much happier with the finished product. Editing on a computer is usually referred to as non-linear editing because you can jump from place to place in the timeline.
If you have to edit with two decks (either cameras or vcrs) it is called linear editing because you must edit in chronological order from start to finish. I used to do it this way with two low end vcr's, a ghetto blaster and a cheap video mixing board. It was majorly time consuming, extremely innacurate (+/- about 10-15 frames) and the finished product was very poor quality. Usually about 3rd or fourth generation.

To keep it simple use a computer if at all possible. If you want to do a quality job of linear editing the appropriate equipment would cost more then a brand new G4 with premiere and hard drive space.

how do you edit on a computer when the final image comes out all slow and chunky? -- there's also a border around the image or a bar at the bottom for when you want to connect a vcr to it..
